An Enchanted Childhood Playschool ~ A Two Week Long Christmas Party!!

We took the past two weeks to celebrate Christmas!  We read soooo many books including The Night Before Christmas, Only A Star, The Sweet Smell of Christmas, This is the Stable, and many, many more.  We added a wooden nativity scene to the Table Time activities and several sets of bells (the jingly kind) to our CircleTime.  We sang Jingle Bells, Rudolf, and Jesus Our Brother, many, many times.  We did several crafts--the kind they can have to hang on their tree for many years to come. We also made Winter Solstice lanterns! 

First Fudge

Pap made his yearly Heshey's "Christmas" Fudge... and guess who got to lick the pan?!?!  For a girlie who usually eats organic, healthy, no sugar food, she sure took to the chocolate!

Soldier Boys

As some of you know, I am a bit of a history nut. So of course I would have Civil War dress up hats. And to be fair, I have one of each color, blue and gray.

Today, my daycare boys each put on a hat.

If only the Union and Confederate armies had taken a lesson from these boys.

Perhaps the war would have been a bit more civil.

At least for five minutes...

An Enchanted Childhood Playschool ~ December 5th-9th ~ The Letter I

The Letter I !!

Using blue painter's tape, I made an "I" on cardstock.  The children then used watercolors to paint.  The idea was to pull the tape off and have a white letter "I".  The tape did NOT pull off clean in many places. :(

"I" is for Indian.

"I" is for ice!  Using food coloring, I made colored mini ice cubes the night before this project.  The children then used the ice to paint. It worked very well, but the younger children did not enjoy it.  The three year old loved it!

An Enchanted Childhood Playschool ~ November 28th-December 2nd ~ The Letter H

The Letter H... for hen and hibernation!

Early in the week, we read a cute book about fall called, When The Leaf Blew In, which featured a Hen and a Horse (along with other animals). We colored a hen and then painted eggs for her nest.

Later in the week, we read The Animals' Winter Sleep and then made "caves" from paperbags.  We painted snow on the caves and colored a few hibernating animals!
