Crafting Along with needle and thREAD

I haven't crafted a bit this past week.  Being 39 weeks pregnant, working full time at our playschool, chasing my own 2 year old Bunny, and NESTING has kept be quite busy.  Each day that passes I find more and more things I want to do to "get ready"... like taking a spur of the minute trip to Ikea (2.5 hours away) this past Sunday to buy the coveted sofa bed, making energy balls, cleaning out one more cabinet...

So I thought I would share with you something I made a few months ago...

Introducing the Mama Doll !

Mama Doll was not forced to birth on her back..
but she was happy to co-operate for the sake of science a crafting blog post!

A little skin to skin bonding time!

I wanted a way to make birthing "normal" to Bunny, who will most likely be present for the birth of Little Sister Squirrely!  Since these pics, I have made a little cord and a little felt placenta, as well! In the 1st picture, poor Mama Doll's dress is quite wrinkled from being pulled up when she gives birth! An important thing to remember (which I did) is to tack the pink inside (her vagina... birthing canal.. whatever you call it!  We call it the birthing canal when talking to Bunny about it.) up into the mama to prevent those dreadful vaginal prolapses when the baby comes out lol  We have had a lot of learning, that looks a lot like fun play time, with Mama Doll and her little one!

What are we reading.. another GREAT "getting ready for a home birth book"--
 Hello Baby by Jenni Overend!

The "belly" today.. 39.5 weeks! I am feeling great!!
Great as in wonderful, as well as great as in "great with child"!!

  1. Hahaha! Mama Doll and her baby. So funny! I've never seen a doll like yours, just a dog with littlies in her belly. She had (of course) a zipper. :-)

    Good luck!

  2. So excited for you, Hannah! I have never made it to 39.5 weeks, so you are my hero!

Praying for a happy, healthy childbirth.

  3. You are so close! And that's good you are preparing Bunny for the birth. She might just grow up to be a midwife. :)

  4. So I'm playing catchup and I have to say that I love, Love, LOVE this doll! It's so brilliant!

  5. So strange - I was just reading about something like this earlier today ( - I had never heard of this idea before. (How many times has your mama delivered today, I wonder?!) I am ultra impressed that 1. you made this, 2. with a young one, 3. due any day now! Best wishes to you for a happy, healthy delivery!

    1. I had seen one (not the one you linked) that had the "opening" at the bottom of the belly.. great for a c-sec (wasn't meant to be a c-sec that is just where they put the opening for the baby to come out) not so great for a homebirth. So I set out to make mine more "real" yet the doll itself very simple. Thanks for the best wishes!

  6. 39.5 weeks?! I'm glad you're feeling so good! I was moping around all over the place at 36, when my daughter was born! I'm so glad you get to have a home birth-- I've always been so interested in the experience, but I had an emergency c with baby k, so I'll sadly have to go that route again, should we decide to have more. :( It's not all bad though, just would've been nice to have that different experience. I love all these neat preparations for new baby!

Thanks so much for linking up! Happily following you back via GFC :) Best wishes for a safe (and speedy!) delivery; can't wait to see some photos! :D

  7. Wow, that's very...unique! I love it! My daughter (age 4) thinks that when the baby's ready to come out, your belly pops open and she comes out through the belly button. LOL Maybe I need a doll like this to "demonstrate" what really happens! :)

  8. Wow, that's great! I love it!
Thank you for linking up to our Pinteresting Party.
