this is pretty much how we rolled this week:

Baby Wearing Bliss

I have had my Ergo for a little over a year. I used to wear Bunny when she was fussy and I needed to get work done. Two year old on my back, baby in my belly.  Lately however, she is very much a free spirit and does not like to be confined to a carrier.

I tried my Ergo as a front carrier for Squirrely a couple of months ago, but much preferred my Moby for front carry. It wasn't until just last week that I tried Squirrely on my back. My sister, Katie, was over and she helped me get Squirrely in and made sure everything was comfy and secure.

She loved it! I felt much more free than with her front carried. She didn't get in my way when I was trying to do things. She just observed the world around her and eventually laid her head down and fell asleep.

I have back packed her every day since.

I figured out how to put her on by myself. I just put her on forward with the chest and belt straps loose. Then I spin her around my body, taking my arms out (but leaving the chest strap clipped so she can't fall backward) and slipping them back in once she is on my back. My sister, Meagan, just put her girls on her back from the start rather than spinning them, but I just couldn't get the hang of it, so I came up with my own way of doing it.

And she always falls asleep.

I manage to lay her down in bed without her waking up.

I sit down on the edge of the bed and unbuckle the waist strap.

Then I unbuckle the chest clip and slooowly take my arms out of the straps,

laying her down in the process.

Then I gently lift her and place her where I want her in the bed.

Squirrely had sox on, but Bunny swiped them when I was about to lay her down. Since I was going to cover her up anyway, I didn't worry about putting them back on. I will be sure to when she wakes up though. It is chilly here today and little ones need to be dressed warmly.

Cover her up and she is good to go.

This is how Squirrely has been going down for her morning nap. Every time I feel like she is getting sleepy, I nurse her up and back pack her while I work on some chores. Before I know it, she is out.

The Birth Circle

I am so excited to write about The Birth Circle. I have been wanting be a part of something like this for a very long time. I know what an amazing resource this would have been for me when I was pregnant with Bunny, and as a first time mama. But alas, my little town, and even surrounding towns, had nothing like this to offer...

Until now!

Almost two years after WV Friends of Midwives first presented the idea,

it has finally become it a reality!

The Birth Circle of Central West Virginia

A discussion and support group for pregnant couples, parents, and grandparents.

Join us the second Saturday of every month

at the Louis Bennett Library in Weston

From 10:30 am to 12:00 pm

Come find support and fellowship!

Meet mamas!

Make new friends!

We will discuss various topics each month such as birthing options, breastfeeding, positive parenting, attachment parenting, cloth diapering, baby wearing, as well as other topics close to our hearts.

Part 1 ~ Real Life Toys

Real life toys are toys that mimic "real" grown up things. These toys can range from play kitchens, to tools, to baby dolls, to phones. Anything that is a mini (child sized), toy version of the real thing.

Real life toys are great for role type playing. They allow a (almost) three year old girl to become a mama, a four year old boy to become a "worker", and a seven year old boy to become a pizza delivery man.

Real life toys allow children to act out and copy the things that they see grown ups do. They encourage looking to the future, as well as acting out dreams.

Real life toys can be great for parents (and/or daycare provders) to learn from, too. Sit back and watch, you just might see yourself through a child's eyes.
