A normal "Summer Break" morning looks like this... Out Side Time from 9:30-11:30.
This particular day, we were visiting with Sally the Salamander (Yes, every salamander is called Sally.. from a book NOT about salamanders called Silly Sally.)
Everyone wanted a turn holding Sally...
before he was released to go back home!
And they're off .. on The Nature Path!
1st "stop and wait" spot.. the big mudhole.
Oh yeah!! Bunny found a slug (hear the fake excitement in my voice?!?!)
Gathering centipedes on TwoTreeMountain. (ick)
Awesome! (yep.. fake excitement again.)
Great belly pic, despite the crabby thing.
Running to greet Poppaw John and ask his permission to raid the garden!
And raid they did... at least 20 strawberries per child!
Big boys picking for themselves and for the little ones!
Then, onto the carrots!
And for the 1st time this season, PEAS!!
Robin eggs that hatched the very next day!
And on to the Big Creek!!
Another day, we headed up Bear Cave Path.
First stop--to gather green pinecones!
The Bear Cave.. would you believe there are four big kids tucked into the "cave"!
Now the "babies" (the ones and twos) get a turn in the cave!
After playing at the cave, they run down the path and through the field,
to climb the hill at the basketball court, where we took a snack break!
And on to the BigCreek again!
Awww the simple joys of summer break!

Wow, so much fun in this post. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your blog. My son would love your playgroup. What fantastic opportunities the kids have - what on earth is that crabby creature - Goblin would be mesmerised by it, he loves all things moving. Can't believe I haven't discovered you earlier. I'm sharing your existence with my FB followers. (although I'm probably the last one to the party and they probably all follow you already).
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I am guessing the crab is a crayfish?? I looked in my fieldguide and that is all I could come up with.. but this guy looks bigger and crabbier than the fieldguide pic! Today we saw a weasel and a great blue heron. Never a dull moment here!
DeleteI have to echo the comments above. There's nothing more magical than when kids and nature collide. This looks like a blast! I'm your newest follower.
