An Enchanted Childhood Playschool ~ November 12th-16th ~ Thanksgiving

When the weather first changes to cold we have a hard time talking ourselves into dressing 6-8 toddlers and heading out into the cold, so we tend to stay inside. Somehow 40 degrees seems sooo cold in November... and yet so refreshing in March!  So we are always very thankful for a warm day, here and there.

This week we did our Thanksgiving activities since we have next week off (yay!)
We started off by reading In November, a sweet book by Cynthia Rylant.  The children then painted foam turkey cut-outs (from Target's Dollar Spot).

Our next activity was inspired by TwoBigTwoLittle's Spice Handprint Turkey.  We mixed brown paint with cinnamon and nutmeg and then made handprint turkeys!  We added googly eyes, a beak, a wattle, and a magnet on the back. Cute!

Bunny and her favorite cousin, Monkey!

Thursday, we read our favorite Thanksgiving book, Thanks for Thanksgiving.
Our yearly tradition is to help the children be mindful of being thankful!
Last year we made leaves and labled them with the things they were thankful for.
This year we made a turkey and wrote their "thanks" on the feathers.

After reading the book, we talked about things we are thankful for. For the littlest ones, we helped them along by asking what they were happy to have, what they loved, what they liked to hug.

We are so thankful, everyday, for so many gifts God has given us: family, friends, our playschool children and their families, His creation which is always amazing and wonder-filled ... so many things to be thankful for!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
