Sometimes things don't work out quite like you plan. This week's topic was The Day Sky. And most days, the day sky looked ... ummm.... Gray! But we rallied and managed to spend lots of time outside!
We started off the week making fluffly cloud prints.
We used a mix of equal parts shaving creme and "school" glue, adding a little gray paint since it was soooo gray outside. The children painted clouds on their work trays. We then laid a sheet of construction paper on top and patted it down.
When we lifted the paper, we had gorgeous clouds on the blue "sky"!
After reading a book about the summer solstice, called The Longest Day by Wendy Pfeffer, and singing our songs about the seasons and months... we headed out to make SUN necklaces! Orange and yellow paint on cardstock suns. Easy!
After "Project Time", the children pick our "adventure".
Some days we go up Bear Cave Path, other days they head up The Nature Path...
...to Two Tree Mountain and Two Tree Mountain Mudslide (yes we name everything!)
Having older siblings here for "Summer Camp" is often so sweet!
At least once a week, the children choose to go visit the garden.
While they eat from all over the garden, this one raised bed belongs to them!
All organic. All yummy!
.
Some of the sugar snap peas are ready to eat!!
As are some of the carrots!
It has been such fun to pull up a carrot, not knowing what color it might be!!
Hope you all had a great week too, filled with lots of time enjoying nature!

What fun! And I absolutely love the way you have your paint station set up.
ReplyDeleteThe craft is really good I may do that with mine. Siblings really are great when it comes to outdoors aren't they. Love seeing food growing.
ReplyDeletereally admire you open-ended planning, especially choosing an adventure! Two Tree Mountain Mudslide looks like a lot of fun, are they really sliding on their bottoms?
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks so delicious, we're a bit behind, but soon! The seedlings are getting stronger and the sun is warming up the soil. Raised beds was a good way to go - I had to build a fence of branches to keep my toddler from zooming through the garden and pulling out all the plants! Hopefully it will all turn into fond memories for her though :)
What a great way to spend a beautiful summers day. I like the idea of using the pans to make their art and then how it is transferred to the paper. I also love the garden. It is my dream to have a garden some day.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this post!!!
Going to follow now :)
Love the painting and I love sugar snap peas. The snails ate all mine seedlings this year :(
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed a sunny afternoon for the summer solstice and were a bit naughty and stayed up late for a bonfire! So good seeing them outside having lots of fun and learning! I love the idea of eating straight from the plant and naming everything makes it all so interesting!
