Back To Basics~Homemade Happiness

Bunk beds~

I had long been watching these bunk beds at IKEA. I just wasn't happy with the nap time sleeping arrangement. And I longed for a bunk bed that would make all my problems disappear. These were perfect. Not too tall, but still a good amount of space for the child on the bottom. The only problem was the price. At a little over $200.00 I could not bring myself to purchase them. And yet I wanted them so very badly.

I had long been watching this website called ana-white.com. On this website, are FREE furniture plans. We had used such plans to build the window-seat in our playroom (another post for another time). I poured over her every plan. Longing for a set of bunk beds (even if they weren't as great as the IKEA ones). After her website remodel, and a new layout, I again began my hunt for the elusive bunk bed plans (most were too tall for our house).

I was almost ready to admit defeat and buy the IKEA bunk beds (this would have meant saving for a few months and waiting until our Pittsburgh trip in January). I did not want to spend that kind of time or money for something that I knew we could build ourselves. I decided to make my own bunk bed plans using ana-white.com as a reference. I had just begun looking for beds the most similar to the IKEA ones, when all of a sudden, there they were, right in front of my eyes I could not believe it and actually squealed with excitement. Finally I had my bunk bed plans.

My husband and I bought enough wood to make two sets of bunk beds (my sister wanted a set for her son too). We followed the plans (be sure to read all of the comments at the bottom of the plans for updates and advice) and built them for about $50.00 each. That's 1/4 of the price of the store ones. I am very happy with our new bunk beds and the new nap time arrangement.
