The First Day Of Fall

In celebration of the first day of fall, our little family went on a "date" (as Bunny says).
We paid a visit to The Game Farm--an awesome place to get a little unschooling in.

When we first arrived, we just walked around the picnic area and let
Bunny stretch her legs after being in the car for an hour.

Please excuse the car seat hair.

I love how she goes from "Hold my hand."...

To "I do it myself!"
She rocks!

This is the only picture I took of Baby Squirrely, because she fell asleep right after this,
and slept the rest of the time we were there.

We saw elk and geese.

A cool leafy bug (not one of the animal attractions) landed on Papa's hand.

Then we made our way around the huge loop that surrounds the animals.

Getting a better look at the river otters.

Fish!

Bunny was strangely impressed with the deer.
We see deer almost every day around our house,
but I guess she enjoyed getting an up -close look at them.

A Bald Eagle... bald like Baby Squirrely, we joked.

Black Bears.

When I was a child, we moved around a few times with my dad's job.We lived on a farm in Pennsylvania
for about five years, before moving back to WV to be closer to family. During that time, we saw black bears every summer. I haven't seen one since we moved here nine years ago.
...
However, look what The Hubs caught on his game camera a few days ago.

This was in the field just above Mama's house.
...
Ok, back to the Game Farm.

I <3 this tree stump!

By the time we were all done looking at the animals, the cool morning had turned into very warm afternoon. We stopped at the gift shop, where an over heated Bunny got a snow cone, and I picked out a t-shirt for her to wear instead of her hot, long sleeve shirt. The t-shirt happened to be made from organic cotton.

That makes up for the snow cone, right?

She likes the mama and two baby deer. She says, "Dat Mama, and me, and Squirrrely!"

What a great way to celebrate the first day of fall!

  3. That bear shot your hubs got is wild! It looks like a big 'un.
When we lived in Kansas City, we used to go to a little farm kind of like this, called Deanna Rose Farmstead. Zia loved it and it was designed perfectly for kids...big farm animals (horses to pull wagon, cow being milked), smaller animals to feed and pet, ponies to ride, fish to catch, shallow wading pool, children's gardens, playgrounds all along the way. All free! (I think they charge $2 now.) We miss it so much--used to go for birthdays--and I wish they had something like that here. I'm glad you have a fun animal farm not too far from you!
